In 2010, the University Wind Ensemble traveled to Japan on a cultural exchange tour. We traveled to Izumo, Kyoto, Kobe and Osaka to perform with and for several schools. While in Japan, I used my phone to record various sounds I heard, street signals, street musicians, arcades, etc. When I got back to America I listened over all of the recordings I acquired and found which sounds would work with others. From this I composed a series of songs based almost entirely on reprogramming the various noises I chose to use. This album is the result. I’d like to thank Professor Tim Salzman for the opportunity to play with the ensemble and travel to Japan, and I’d especially like to thank Yamamoto Sensei for being such a wonderful and gracious host.
